“The first lesson in constructing viral content is having the strength, courage, and self-confidence to get in touch with your own feelings, thinking about what profoundly affects you.”

Going Viral
So, let’s talk about viral trends. They’ve been there since the dawn of the internet, and sometimes they don’t seem to make any sense, but by the end of the month everyone has seen and forgotten about them. Y’know, except for that pesky COVID-19, that’s one viral trend I wish we could get rid of altogether.
As a communications major, I feel like the field of communication has to have a decent grasp over how and why things go viral. Really, how things on the internet get popular in general. It’s important we know these things, because it helps with things like marketing. Taking trends, and things we know people like, and turning them into ways we can grab their attention. Fast food marketers have already got this down. The feild of communication helps people study these trends, and use them to our advantage.
How Can it Help?

How can people use virality to their advantage in the feild of communication? Well, an understanding of virality can do a number of things, like steering new content. . If a creator knows what’s popular they can make more of it. This works out well for both the creator and the viewer, becuase it’s mutually beneficial. The creator is getting more exposure, views, possibly revenue, and the viewer is gtting content that they want to see. It also helps us understand what people are thinking in society. What goes viral is an excellent example of what people are feeling in the world.
